The Oyster Bay Hotel in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania is an oasis just North of downtown. Perched on Cocoa Beach, at the edge of a lovely bay, this boutique property is exceptionally positioned and meticulously maintained. Visiting, I felt like a guest at someone’s beachside villa. Native artwork, exquisitely made furnishings and the utmost in attention to detail proliferates – interior designer Kim Smith didn’t miss a beat. Dar es Salaam isn’t known for its luxury hotels. So, this property, is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered.
The staff greeted me one by one at the door and escorted me to my suite overlooking the sea. Whitewashed everything makes the perfect backdrop for the pops of color that can be found in the peaceful pool area and the scrumptious cuisine at the hotel’s restaurant. I fell in love with the sculptures of African masks in the garden. The manager was even willing to take me around and explain the work, personally. If you are sensitive to your environment and yearn for a place that will immediately put you at ease, in every way, look no further.
