Issey Miyake is a Japanese label with a global sensibility, and Yusuke Takahashi is it’s leader. Infusing an incredibly unique and memorable design aesthetic is what makes each of his shows remembered season after season. His autumn/winter 2014 collection saw a large amount of color and texture – all inspired by a trip to Iceland which Mr. Takahashi experienced. A prism of color reflected glaciers, starry skies and volcanic magma, the elements of the planet synergistically combining in a moment of perfection. While market-hopping on a Sunday morning in Cartagena, I decided to don a look from the recent collection as it was so fitting for the time and place. An oversized woolen poncho, flushed with blues, turquoise and greens. It couldn’t have been a better choice for a surprisingly cool morning in the Caribbean seaport. I paired it with leggings, also from Issey Miyake autumn/winter 2014, and worn leather ankle boots by Italian shoemaker Marsell.
