Caitlin Richardson, the owner and artist behind Blond/Blond, the blonde-only salon on Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles, is the city’s best colorist when it comes to transforming your hair into an incredible shade of blonde. Now, everyone in L.A. does blonde, but many are not experts at their craft. Blonde is special in that it takes a particular finesse not to wreck and ravage your hair during the lifting process, and, also, a lot of attention to be sure you lift to the exact right shade. Caitlin has this down pat.
I visited her salon while in Los Angeles as I am always on the look-out for people who can work with my very (naturally) dark hair, when I’m in need of blonde-ing, while traveling. I frequent Los Angeles often, and had heard incredible things about Caitlin and her space. I pulled-up in an Uber to her sleek, minimal and modern salon near Little Ethiopia on Fairfax Avenue and was instantly struck when I walked in. I saw Caitlin and a handful of other staff members working on a younger woman with the most beautiful color.
I was taken immediately and offered a robe and something to drink – in a very friendly and casual way. This made the space feel comfortable and I could tell there was absolutely no attitude here. Caitlin assessed my roots and suggested a particular hand-painted highlight that would complement what I already had. After a couple of hours of painting and lifting, the final result was revealed. The blonde was probably some of the best I’ve had in my life.
For those who live in, or visit Los Angeles often, I would make an appointment. It’s hard to get-in, but, once you do – you’ll never want to go anywhere else.
