Nyhavn Copenhagen - 2
There are many neighborhoods in Copenhagen worth exploring. From the center of town, you can walk in any direction and end-up somewhere interesting. But, one of my favorites is the charming waterfront area of Nyhavn. The neighborhood was primarily built by King Christian V in the 17th century and retains many original buildings that run up and down its boat-filled canal. The buildings house private residences, cafes, bars and other businesses. One of Denmark’s most famous authors, Hans Christian Andersen, lived in the area for over 20 years.
Today, Nyhavn is the perfect spot during most seasons to stroll with a cone of ice cream, or to sit and have a glass of beer. It’s location is near the oceanfront, which you can walk to easily and see the famous Little Mermaid statue or the fishing vessels that troll in and out of the harbor. Any visit to Copenhagen isn’t complete without a stop in Nyhavn.
