Many men are afraid of jewelry for fear that they will look too feminine. While there might be some jewelry that would be cause of that fear, there are many other options if you look high and low. While in Quito, I picked up a beautiful ring that was very masculine, designed by a man and was composed of rough silver and coral. I noticed throughout many of the markets that most of the artisans were men – especially the jewelry makers. I found interesting rings made from hand wrought silver and bronze juxtaposed with smoky quarts, onyx, amethyst and other indigenous stones from the mountains. I was inspired by the lack of stereotypes that often exist in the United States around men who wear jewelry. When done right, it can be a major accessory achievement and showstopper. Why shouldn’t we put a ring on it?
