Élan Flowers, owned by Christine and Patrick Hall, is New York City’s premiere flower resource for seasonal blooms and unique creations for any special occasion throughout the year. Located at 26 Grand Street, in the heart of Soho, this flower studio is the go-to choice for the area’s affluent residents, corporations, designers and other notable clientele – keeping the owners and designers on their toes when it comes to original ideas and choice blooms.

Sourced from around the world, Élan only uses the freshest and most beautiful blooms – putting emphasis on what’s in-season, and hard-to-get varieties. We spoke with owner Christine about her ethos, inspiration and method behind the passion she’s found in flowers. And, it’s her passion that seems to be the reason behind Élan’s tremendous success – carrying on a brand that has been going for over three decades.

IC: What is your design ethos?

CH: Our design ethos is about elegance – we create exquisite garden-inspired arrangements that are clean, balanced, and that always utilize fresh, seasonal flowers. We are also known for our creative use of texture and our spiraled stems – a design technique unique to Élan.

IC: Where do you source your flowers?

CH: Through our sources at the New York flower market. We also source flowers from Holland, The Netherlands, Japan, South America and from Africa.

IC: What are your favorite flowers to work with?

CH: Our lead designer, Yuko Hasegawa, says, “I cannot choose just one.” That explains why she is so great at what she does – falling in love, season to season, with even the most humble bloom. We use what some might consider basic flowers alongside the most hard-to-find and sought after blooms. Our designs help our clients appreciate all types of blooms, succulents, plants and textural elements.

IC: What serves as constant inspiration for your creations?

CH: Nature.

IC: What was the moment when you knew you had made an impact with your work in flowers?

CH: My husband and I bought this business almost 2 years ago. We loved Élan as an established brand and knew that we had the experience and vision to grow the brand with more events and new ideas. We have also moved the business to our new, larger and even lovelier location where we already have in-store events books including a product launch, TV network shoot and more. We feel like we are hitting our stride and just beginning to realize the possibilities with Élan. We have grown our amazing team of designers and office staff that are driving new and truly exciting designs each season.
