The Fearrington House Inn, located on a historic farm near Chapel Hill, North Carolina, is a quintessential luxury property ideal for a weekend getaway. A member of Relais and Chateaux, the inn is a majestic slice of heaven where you can immerse yourself in “farm life”, all while relaxing on a tranquil and unique property like none other in the area.
The inn sits on acres and acres of rolling pastures featuring beautiful and shaggy Belted cows, goats, a hen house and stunning landscaped gardens.
All of it revolves around the historic farmhouse, and the “Fearrington Village” – which offers everything from an expertly curated boutique, coffee house, beer garden, restaurant and more.
The entire operation is near the small community of Pittsboro, but is a destination in itself.
Guests can look forward to 32 rooms and suites, which are scattered throughout the property. Many of them feel like little condos, with private entries, living quarters, bathrooms and bedrooms that have views of the pastures. Once checked-in to these cozy and elegant rooms, you can explore the area and take-in the fresh air around you.
What I love about Fearrington is the anonymity of it all. It doesn’t feel like a traditional hotel or inn, but a private community with wide-open spaces and endless moments to have “alone time” or curl-up under a tree with a good book.
I believe this is why the village offers real estate and purchasing options for those who fall in love and never want to leave.
The Fearrington House Inn boasts a spa as well as a fabulous high tea experience. You can sit by the fire, or in the garden near the main house, and indulge in a smattering of tea options accompanied by three layers of delicious pastries, sandwiches and scones.
For dinner, I suggest the incomparable Fearrington House Restaurant. Inside the main historic house, in the evening, Executive Chef Colin Bedford serves fantastic “farm-to-fork” cuisine that features ingredients sourced from local purveyors as well as eggs from the Fearrington Farm.
You might find items on the menu like” roasted lamb loin with buttered morel mushrooms, seared halibut with local asparagus or prosciutto-wrapped rabbit loin with beets and orange. Desserts are out of this world – my favorite being the carrot cake.
Fearrington Village is easy to reach via Raleigh or Greensboro airports. If you live in Washington, D.C. or Virginia – it’s a quick drive.
I arrived from New York, flying a quick hour to the destination. With the ease and charm of it all, this is one of my favorite weekend getaways.
