The Black Walnut Inn and Vineyard is a hilltop oasis in the Dundee Hills of Oregon, just 30 minutes from downtown Portland. A Willamette Valley gem, this hotel feels like a private villa set within lush, green hills and forests of Douglas Firs. I was a guest at the property recently, and was incredibly impressed with not only its location, but the service, decor and homemade food churned out from the kitchen.
The rooms at The Black Walnut Inn and Vineyard are large, well-decorated with sumptuous furniture and cozy beds and luxurious bathrooms. The views from every window here go on as far as the eye can see, and with a cup of coffee in hand as the morning mist gives way to the warmth of the sun – you won’t find a happier place to be.
Whether milling around the property during the day or during the evening, you will find something to enjoy. During chillier months, there are crackling fires to sit by. Summer months offer outdoor vistas and vineyard dinners with stunning wine tastings. You’ll sample some of the area’s best pinot noir and chardonnay here, and settle into a slower way of life – one where you can truly let go and relax.
My favorite part of the day at The Black Walnut Inn and Vineyard is breakfast. And, oh what an event it is. Breakfast is on another level, simple but satisfying. Served on handmade plates and consisting of mostly ingredients sourced within a five mile radius, you might indulge in farm-fresh scrambled eggs, crispy smashed potatoes or quite literally the best blueberry muffin I’ve ever tasted.
The dining room is always a lively place to be, where piping-hot cappuccinos are served and chatter of that day’s vineyard tasting itineraries are being looked over.
Typically, after a day out in the valley, I came back to the property for a fireside chat and a glass of pinot. I often retired to my room early with my guests for a game of cards or charades.
The staff at The Black Walnut Inn and Vineyard are very detail oriented. They are casual in nature, non-obtrusive but there when you need them. Everyone at the hotel is friendly and will help with suggestions on what to do and see in the area, small town to explore nearby and will even book you into tone of their coveted vineyard chef dinners.
There are many hotels and inns located in the Willamette Valley. But, for those seeking a true slice of heaven where every detail is looked after for you, The Black Walnut Inn and Vineyard is simply the best.
