Inside the Hotel Altis Avenida in Lisbon, on the rooftop level, a lovely restaurant sits serving guests delicious cuisine prepared expertly by Chef Carlos Marques. Views through the glass and across the terrace, down a sprawling avenue, make for an incredible backdrop to your meal. The sparkling lights of Lisbon set the mood for a dinner that will be one to keep in memory book.
I dined here on a recent trip to the city. The manager met me at the elevator bank and escorted me to a window-side table, one of the best in the house. Chef Marques had created a degustation menu, which featured items that he curated from a fall lineup of ingredients. There was: grilled turbot, shrimp risotto with lime and coriander, grilled guinea fowl with chestnut sauce, venison loin with cornbread crust and sweet egg yolk with bitter almond ice cream for dessert.
I thoroughly enjoyed my meal at the restaurant, one that is frequented by both guests of the hotel and locals alike. It was different than other meals I’ve had in town, with true personalization added to each dish. The chef even accommodated our likes and dislikes, at the last minute.
If you’re looking to try something new and relatively under the radar in terms of tourism, try Rossio. It won’t disappoint.
