Chef Michele Mazza presides over the kitchen at the remarkable Il Mulino Soho steakhouse, “Il Mulino Prime”. An intimate dining room located on West Broadway, this eatery offers diners prime dry-aged meats, pastas and other Italian fare that can make even the most jaded foodie’s mouth water.
The menu offers variety. Their specialty is, obviously, red meat. But, fear not if you’re not a red meat eater. There are plenty of options. The red meat comes from the grill – off the bone or on the bone – your choice. Seafood options like branzino, wild salmon, halibut and shellfish all make an appearance. The pastas are to die for. Short rib ravioli, linguini with clam sauce or cavatelli with broccoli rabé and sausage – they’re all delectable.
I tried a smattering of pastas and a bit of the red meat. It was all excellent and beautifully prepared. The presentation here is impressive and each dish was delivered with excitement and a deep knowledge of the ingredients. I ended the night with an amazing slice of cheesecake, one of the best I’ve ever eaten.
Il Mulino Prime emphasizes service, and that’s clear from start to end of the meal. I recommend any New Yorker, or visitor to New York, to make a stop here. You won’t regret it.
