St. Barth is loaded with incredible eateries – but Maya’s takes the cake. Chef Maya is a legend in the Caribbean, especially of St. Barth. Born in Martinique and raised on the island of Guadeloupe, she made her way to St. Barth in the 1970s and has never looked back. She prepares the most delicious, homemade meals from recipes she learned as a child – as well as those she invented along the way.
The focus here is on seasonal, fresh ingredients – utilizing produce, fish and meat that is purchased locally or even at larger markets in Guadeloupe. Nothing will stop Maya from finding and preparing the best for her customers. As a recent guest, I sat at a beautiful outdoor table dressed in white linen and lit by candles. A simple menu was presented – each dish looking better than the last. It was hard to choose. In fact, you can eat here every day while on the island and never get bored, as Maya changes the menu each morning.
On the menu you might find risotto, fish filet, soup or other specialties. For dessert, you won’t want to miss the coconut torte – which is made daily from freshly grated island coconut. It left me in awe.
For anyone seeking an incredible dining experience – both in food and ambiance – Maya’s will satisfy you. And, don’t miss Maya’s To Go, her casual food stop where you can load-up on delicious sandwiches for the beach or French pastry.
