Ed Stewart helped establish PAWS, Performing Animal Welfare Society, in Northern California. For over 30 years, together with his partner, Pat Derby, he has rescued countless animals from poorly managed zoos and circuses around the world. He invented a non-abusive approach to elephant handling and made it his mission to educate the public about the atrocities animals face behind the glossy images of zoos and shows featuring animal “acts” as entertainment. Supported by the likes of Bob Barker, the organization strives to be a shelter for those who have no voice.
