The Vienna State Opera is an opera house, and opera company, with a history dating back to the mid-19th century. It is located in the center of town and was originally called the Vienna Court Opera. In 1920, with the replacement of the Habsburg Monarchy by the First Republic of Austria, it was renamed the Vienna State Opera. The members of the Vienna Philharmonic are recruited from its orchestra.

Today, the opera is one of the busiest in the world, churning out nearly 60 operas per year – not including ballet pieces. As this art is a way of life and is embedded into the fabric of the city, you’ll often find locals and visitors competing for seats to the sold out shows. The building was constructed in the mid 1800s and retains its beautiful architecture, both inside and out, which can be appreciated even as a site to visit in itself, sans an opera.

Taking-in a performance here will be a memory kept for the rest of your life and one that will instill the heart of Vienna into your very own makeup as a human being. Don’t miss the opportunity.
