Warsaw’s Palace of Culture and Science is an icon of the city and stands as a bittersweet reminder of former Soviet rule, and the railing against it by the Poles who yearned for independence. A tall and unique structure gifted to the Polish people by Lenin, yet built by Poles not Russians. You can’t help but notice it from nearly every corner of the city.

To me, it looks like an Asian-inspired pagoda of some sort, mixed with European charm. You can marvel at it from many places around town, but I suggest riding the elevator to its observation deck where you can get a 360-degree view of Warsaw. It’s a must for anyone visiting the city.
