Located a mere 30-minutes from the coast of Victoria lies a chain of islands, the Gulf Islands, which are a throwback to the quiet natural beauty of British Columbia. There are several islands, including Pender, Salt Spring and Mayne, which lure both visitors and locals in hopes to witness the wildlife and beautiful seashore which have made them so famous.
Getting to the islands is easy from Victoria or Vancouver with B.C. Ferries. The ferry service has an extensive route network which connects all the islands with the two cities as well as with each other. Boarding their ferries through their well-kept terminals and docks is easy. You can travel as a walk-on passenger or even bring your car on-board.
The perfect day trip would be hopping on-board the boat and setting sail through the azure waters of the Salish Sea. Landing on the pine-covered Pender or lively Salt Spring islands will allow you to witness pods of Orca whales swimming off-shore, dolphins leaping about and even bald eagles who make the islands their home.
